Science Politics in the Seattle Times Today!!!!

Posted: July 24, 2013 in Funding, Jobs, Life as a post-doc, Science Communication

My opinion piece regarding NIH budget cuts and the “brain drain” was published in the Seattle Times today! I wrote this as part of the ASPET Washington Fellows Program (in addition to traveling to DC earlier this year to advocate on Capitol Hill for increased NIH funding). While at first a bit daunting, the writing process and my interaction with the Seattle Times has been a great learning experience.

Continued cuts to basic science funding will continue and more young scientists will leave research if we continue to remain silent on these issues. I urge everyone to contact their elected officials, local papers, and social networks in order to convey how budget cuts have affected your research endeavors and those of your colleagues.
